2022 CALENDAR - HEALTHY LIVESTOCK NEED HEALTHY PASTURES, December 21, 2021

This calendar was created to help bring attention to some common plants in Columbia County which have been noted to be poisonous to livestock, humans, or pets.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, poisonous plants have proven to be a major cause of economic loss to the livestock industry. “Each year these plants adversely affect 3 to 5 percent of the cattle, sheep, and horses that graze western ranges. These losses result from death of livestock, abortions, photosensitization, decreased production, emaciation, and birth defects.” Additional economic losses can also occur in the form of increased management costs associated with such things as fencing, altered grazing programs, and loss of forage.
