The Columbia SWCD and the NRCS have a long history of working together to assist landowners with conservation efforts. Often the SWCD provides technical assistance and is a local contact for a landowner, while the NRCS provides programs that can share the costs of implementing practices on your property. |
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary conservation program that provides assistance to agricultural producers in a manner that will promote agricultural production and environmental quality as compatible goals. |
Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) is a voluntary program that provides both technical and financial assistance to non-federal landowners and tribes to create, restore, and enhance fish and wildlife habitats. |
(CSP) is a voluntary program that provides financial and technical assistance to promote the conservation and improvement of soil, water, air, energy, plant and animal life, and other conservation purposes on Tribal and private working lands. |

In addition to the programs offered by the NRCS, the Columbia SWCD can work with landowners to secure “small grants” from the State of Oregon. These are ‘matching’ grants that can contribute up to $10,000 for a project on private lands. They are called “matching grants” because at least 25% of the total cost of a project must come from other sources.
Example: for a project that costs a total of $12,000; · · Up to $9,000 could come from the small grant · · The other $3000 must be provided from other sources - such as the landowner or other funding sources
